The IAAP Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) Exam Preparation Program introduces participants to the CAP certification; including exam eligibility and requirements, and provides an extensive overview of each of the six CAP exam domains:
→ Organizational Communication (24%)
→ Business Writing and Document Production (22%)
→ Technology and Information Distribution (16%)
→ Office and Records Management (15%)
→ Event and Project Management (12%)
→ Operational Functions (11%)
The program is designed to prepare students to embark on a targeted course of study in anticipation of successful completion of the CAP exam.*
The CAP exam is offered twice annually, to both IAAP members and non-members.
The percentages represent the amount of content covered on the exam in that particular area.

Introduction to the course and areas to be covered
→ Trainer provides an introduction to the course content and methodology

SESSION 1 – Introduction to the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP)
→ Four main components of certification
→ Value of the CAP certification
→ Three-step process to earn and maintain the CAP
→ Discussion of exam fees and scheduling
SESSION 2 – CAP Domain 1
→ CAP Domain 1 – Organizational Communication
• Performance Outcome (PO) 1
– Describe the concepts of applications of communication, management and leadership models/theories within organizations
− Identify various types of communication and which is the most effective for different business situations
Exercise: Review communication types
− Describe management/leadership theories and how they relate to effective organizational communication
Exercise: Review/discuss leadership theory matrix
• PO 2: Describe the process of effective interaction with internal and external stakeholders
− Demonstrate a basic knowledge and proficiency in managing and resolving conflict within an organization.
Exercise: Organizational conflict scenario
• PO 3: Recognize the importance and utilization of professional networking
− Describe how networking (both inperson and virtual) has changed the way people find jobs and companies recruit new employees.
Exercise: Professional networking tips
SESSION 3 – CAP Domain 2 – Business Writing and Document Production
• PO 1: Demonstrate knowledge of terminology associated with business writing and document production
− Identify the different functions of correspondence, documents and reports within an organization.
− Describe which method is best for creating and distributing reports and documents within an organization.
− Identify best practices for developing business communications such as research, audience analysis and composition.
Exercise: Document match-up
• PO 2: Exhibit proficiency in proofreading and editing documents
− Demonstrate knowledge of document readability for business communication.
− Identify and describe the most important steps when editing and proofreading.
− Apply the basics of copy editing for various types of documents.
Exercise: Edits using a proofreading guide
• PO 3: Demonstrate proficiency in the use of grammar, spelling, and sentence constructionn.
− Demonstrate ability to apply basic rules of English grammar, especially spelling, punctuation, capitalization and sentence construction.
Day 2
SESSION 4 – CAP Domain 3
Review of Day 1
• CAP overview
− Domains 1 and 2 overviews
CAP Domain 3 – Technology and Information Distribution
• PO 1: Describe the process of information distribution within an office environment
− Demonstrate knowledge in how to organize distribution lists for various types of communications.
• PO 2: Identify the important differences between traditional and electronic distribution of information
− Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency of different email interface types.
− Know what software and technology is available for distributing information.
Exercise: Review information distribution flowchart
• PO 3: Identify copyright laws, regulations regarding intellectual property, and ways to maintain confidentiality when distributing information.
− Identify proper attribution of quotations from published documents.
SESSION 5 – CAP Domain 4 Office and Records Management
• PO 1: Demonstrate knowledge of basic terminology associated with records management using ARMA Guidelines.
− Prove knowledge of terms such as metadata, records retention and data archiving.
− Demonstrate familiarity with terms used by ARMA and general records management.
• PO 2: Identify the key advantages and disadvantages of electronic and manual (paper) file management based on ARMA uidelines.
− Demonstrate usage of both paper and electronic filing systems as appropriate based on access requirements and organizational needs.
• PO 3: Demonstrate knowledge of both electronic and manual (paper) filing rules and standards based on ARMA Guidelines.
− Describe types of electronic files, naming conventions, options for accessing and methods of altering information.
− Knowledge of available software, systems and services for electronic filing.
− Describe the different methods for creating, storing and retaining files.
SESSION 6 – CAP Domain 5 Event and Project Management
• PO 1: Demonstrate knowledge of basic terminology associated with event management
− Identify the necessary elements in planning events ranging from internal meetings to external conferences.
• PO 2: Demonstrate proficiency in travel preparation
− Describe the necessary elements for planning and organizing travel, both domestically and internationally.
Exercise: Best practices in travel preparation
• PO 3: Describe the key requirements for meetings both in person and virtual
− Describe the steps required in the organization and planning of professional meetings.
− Knowledge of which software applications are appropriate for online meetings.

Day 3
SESSION 7 – CAP Domain 6
• Review of Day 2
− Domains 3, 4 and 5 overviews
CAP Domain 6 – Operational Functions
• PO 1: Demonstrate knowledge in the duties and processes of human resources.
− Describe different forms of harassment in the workplace.
− Describe the ways to address employee situations professionally and legally.
− Identify approaches to and the importance of following organizational policies and procedures.
− Demonstrate knowledge of and purpose for performance evaluations.
Exercise: HR Scenarios – groups will review and discuss a scenario based on one of the above areas.
• PO 2: Describe the various methods of recruitment, staffing and hiring practices.
− Define different interview types and process.
− Demonstrate the ability to determine the staffing requirements of an organization.
• PO 3: Recognize why cultural and generational diversity is important for organizations.
− Describe how differing cultural and generational perspectives can benefit an organization.
− Identify what should be included in diversity training within an organization.

This highly practical and interactive course has been specifically designed for
Office and administrative professionals who are interested in earning the only recognized certification in this field, and who meet the exam eligibility requirements or will meet them when they are ready to sit for the exam:
→ No College Degree - 4 years of relevant work experience is required
→ Associates Degree - 3 years of relevant work experience is required
→ Bachelor’s Degree - 2 years of relevant work experience is required

What language will the course be taught in and what level of English do I need to take part in an LEORON training program?
Most of our public courses are delivered in English language. You need to be proficient in English to be able to fully participate in the workshop and network with other delegates. For in-house courses we have the capability to train in Arabic, Dutch, German and Portuguese.
Are LEORON Public courses certified by an official body/organization?
LEORON Institute partners with 20+ international bodies and associations.We also award continuing professional development credits (CPE/PDUs) for:1. What is the deadline for registering to a public course?
The deadline to register for a public course is 14 days before the course starts. Kindly note that occasionally we do accept late registrations as well, but this needs to be confirmed with the project manager of the training program or with our registration desk that can be reached at +1071 4 1075 5711 or register@leoron.com.
What does the course fee cover?
The course fee covers a premium training experience in a 5-star hotel, learning materials, lunches & refreshments, and for some courses, the certification fee and membership with the accrediting bodies.
Does LEORON give discounts?
